Make no mistake — I absolutely love Iquitos, Peru. There is no place like it and for many years it has always been my second home. I’ve spent more time here than anywhere else in the world for reasons that are difficult to explain. (That’s a topic for another post.)
But nothing frustrates me more here than the inability to connect with the outside world through wifi. If simply doesn’t exist.
Okay, I exaggerate a little, but it is so bad that dialup from 30 years ago was light years faster the systems here
For example, it took me over 20 minutes to be able to begin writing this post. Not writing, but just getting through the log-in page and then accessing the “add a New Post” page. That’s just two clicks (!) yet it took an unheard of long time.
My current hotel, Ari’s Hotel II, told me that the internet was slow here, though it has been five days since there has been any internet at all despite a solid wifi connection. Then I was told there was good internet in the lobby, but there isn’t even wifi there!
It’s driving me crazy, but that’s the way things work here in Iquitos.
